Isle of Wight Weekend Away
On Friday 21st September 22 club members headed south to spend the weekend in The Isle of Wight. Most of us met up before boarding the ferry, but the admin shortcomings at the ferry port resulted in us being separated.
Not to worry – we all arrived at the hotel safely, and settled in before exploring the local surroundings and changing for dinner. We were bussed out to Ventnor to the Spyglass Inn, where, as well as enjoying good food and beer, we met up with some of the local MG owners, who were going to host us next day on a run around the Island.
Next day the rain bucketed down, but this did not deter us from driving to Havenstreet for a morning discovering the steam railway, and then meeting up again with the locals for what would have been a very picturesque run had we been able to see the view through the rain, mist and cloud. A stop at the Pearl Shop pleased the ladies, and much cash was passed over the counter …. In the evening we ate locally, in Morgans restaurant in Shanklin – a superb meal. And on return to the hotel we had a sociable drink at the bar on our return, gradually disappearing off to bed one by one until only Jack and Debbs Martin and Adrian Bennett remained to put the world to rights.
Sunday – and still raining. Off to Osbourne House. A fascinating place with lots of royal history and beautiful gardens and grounds, pity the catering arrangements were not up to the same standards! Then the ferry home.
A great weekend despite the weather, superbly organised by our Chairman Dave Barton, to whom a huge vote of thanks from all of us.
