Walking Treasure Hunt around Waddesdon

For our July Club Night, Clive and Helen Wayland had arranged a walking treasure hunt around our local village.

Twenty members gathered at The Lion at 20.00  on Monday 1st July, some having dined at the pub first.  We firstly divided up into teams for the hunt.  Clive gave us a briefing and then handed out the sheet of cryptic clues, and off we set in the very pleasant evening sunshine.  There was quite a bit of confusion as the teams criss-crossed each other in the back streets of this delightful village in search of those elusive answers.  During the course of the hunt we all discovered corners of the village we didn’t know existed, and wondered why we met other teams heading in the opposite direction!

However, we eventually filled our sheets and headed back to The Lion for a well-earned drink and for our efforts to be judged.  There was a delay as two teams seemed to have got themselves lost, and a search party was deployed, but the stragglers eventually turned up by themselves.

The scoring having been completed, Clive announced the result.  Not surprisingly, nobody had successfully solved all 40 clues!  Placed third were the Bennetts, second a tie between Skinner/Codd and the Trio of Dave B, Kurt M/ David P-B, and the winning team, picking up the first prize of two bottles of wine, was the Mansfields.

An unusual event for one of our Club Nights, but highly enjoyable.  A big vote of thanks to the Waylands for organising the event!
