DESCRIPTION:Midsomer Murders comes to St Johns Social Club!! \nThis month we meet as usual on Tuesday 6th September at 8.00pm but this time we have a very interesting speaker coming to talk to us. \nDouglas Watkinson (born 5 July 1945) is a writer who has written the screenplay for 7 episodes of the popular ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders. He is an English novelist\, playwright and screenwriter\, specialising in crime and mystery\, and I am sure he will entertain us with many a tale. All the more interesting as the series is filmed in several locations near to us. \nSo please do your best to attend and bring along a guest if you like. See you all there.

DESCRIPTION:After an absence of over two years we are happy to announce that this years Pride of Ownership event will be held on Tuesday 2nd August at the St Johns Social Club in Stone near Thame. \nIt will feature all classes of MG’s and maybe some other classics too. \nThe event will start at around 6pm for cars to begin to arrive and be organised into the show area. If you wish to attend and enter your vehicle then please use the attached form to do so. Click Here for your information and entry form. \nA fish and chip supper is also being organised at a cost of £10.00 per head\, but you will need to pre order and pay in advance for this if you want to partake. The Social Club has a well stocked bar and will be serving drinks until 10.30. \nWe hope to see as many cars there as possible and that the weather gods smile on us!! \nN.B. DESCRIPTION:This year we are going to Battle in Sussex.\n\nThe venue is the Powdermills Hotel https://powdermillshotel.com/.    Dates Tuesday 14th June 2022 to Thursday 16th or Friday 17th.\n\nThe hotel rate is £125 per night B&B.  The Wednesday night will be £200 as it will include dinner.  The plan is to arrive Tuesday 14th afternoon or evening . Events will be organised as below for Wednesday and Thursday. It will be your choice to depart Thursday late afternoon or stay another night in the hotel and depart Friday.\n \nPlease call the hotel direct on 01424 775511 to book your rooms. remember to say that you are part of the Aylesbury MG club party. \n\n\n\nProposed itinerary \nTuesday\nArrive at hotel in own time. Use of pool\, bar and lake for walks.\nDinner Tuesday evening either at the hotel or a local pub/restaurant.\n\nWednesday.\n\n\nVisit Battle Abbey and battleground site.  The battlefield site has a museum and short site audio tour. The entry fee is £13.90 per person unless you are an English Heritage member. I will need to know before we go so that I can pay the relevant payment.\nGuided tour of two of the Battle Abbey School rooms by James Dennett\, the Marketing Manager for the school.\n\n\n\n\n\nAs it will be term time we cannot get permission to park in front of the school but there is a public car park outside the abbey gateway.\nLunch will be a buffet at the Bull’s Head in Boreham Street.\n\nVisit to Filching Manor with a talk by Karl Foulkes-Halbard\, the current owner.  This is a 1740 manor house with a ‘man cave’\, sheds full of cars and historical memorabilia\, including the speed record boat Bluebird. It is not open to public\, only to organised groups. This will be £10 per head which I will collect in advance.\n\n\nWednesday evening we will have a Gala dinner at hotel.\n\nThursday.\n\n\nThe intention is to visit the Observatory Science Center near Herstmonceaux Castle (Patrick Moore used to work there). I am currently negotiating for a guided tour of two of telescope towers and a talk on site history. Cost as yet unknown.\n\nLunch at will be at the Observatory with a  buffet and cream tea.\nThe afternoon is as yet not confirmed. We have options for local gardens\, a visit to Beachey Head or a visit to a steam train restoration project\n\n\n\nWhen you book the hotel please send me an email so that I know you’re coming and whether you are staying Thursday night.

DESCRIPTION:For the Clubs first run of the year we are driving to the Waterfront Cafe at Benson for 9.30 am on Saturday 2nd April. So let’s start the season off by taking the dust covers of your MG and taking it for a run to the Waterfront Cafe at Benson for breakfast.\n\n\nhttps://www.waterfrontcafe.co.uk\nThe cafe opens at 0845 and is a popular place with outside tables under cover by the river Thames. Karen and I will be outside\, less hardy souls can go inside if they wish!  Car parking can be tight. If we arrive at 0930 we should get into the car park ( sharp left as you turn off the road) or the additional parking facing the river (straight ahead after turning off the road). There is parking the other side of the road but then be careful when crossing. \n\nWe do not need to book tables.\nAfter breakfast we could have a run on some of the smaller roads back towards Aylesbury with a pub stop at the end.\n\n\nHope to see as many members there as possible.

DESCRIPTION:February’s club night will be held on Tuesday\, the 1st of February at a new venue St John’s social club in stone. \n  \nAs you know we made an attempt to have the AGM at the last meeting but due to Covid restrictions and an increase in infections it seemed wise to cancel the AGM. We will monitor the situation and if it is possible for us to have a full meeting then we will conduct the AGM at February’s meeting. \n  \nWe will advise later in the month as to whether this will go ahead or whether we will make alternative arrangements for February’s club night. \n  \nIn the meantime all stay safe and do your best to have a good start to the New Year.

DESCRIPTION:Remember we have our new venue at The Sports and Social Club in Stone. This Decembers meeting will be a good social occasion and with this in mind it being just before Christmas we are asking everyone coming to bring along some buffet food towards the evening.  I have been in touch with some of the members who I know are definitely coming\, but for those who I am not sure about then this is a reminder. \nPlease note that we are not able to take soft drinks or alcohol into the Club\, this is a condition of membership. Those of us who went to Novembers meeting will tell you that there is a very good bar available with very reasonable prices for the whole evening. \nWe look forward to seeing as many of you as possible to round off what has been a very different year for the club. \nHopefully next year we will have some normality and we can enjoy some different events.

DESCRIPTION:Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 2nd November 8:00pm at: \nSt Johns Social Club \nA418\, Stone\,  \nAylesbury  \nHP17 8PT \nAs you will be aware we have been trying for some time to find a new venue for our monthly meeting after we lost the venue at The Lion Waddesdon. \nWe are pleased to announce that we have come to an agreement with St Johns Social Club in Stone\, between Thame and Aylesbury\, for our meetings to be held in a private room there on the first Tuesday of each month. Each member of the AMGC will become a member of the social club and as such will also be able to use the club on other occasions if they wish. The reason for the change of day is due to the fact that the club is not open on Mondays and also we avoid the clash with bank holidays that we used to have. The Social Club has a well stocked bar and the drinks are a lot less than at your normal pub\, so another advantage. \nPlease do your best to support us on this our first meeting at a new venue. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Good news\, after a successful meeting at the Lion in September we are looking to meet at The Akeman at Kingswood next month. \nThis is in an effort to find a new location for our regular meetings as we can no longer use the room at the Lion due to the restaurant now being open to the public every day. \nWe will be meeting at 20.00 on Monday 4th October. DESCRIPTION:January Club Night is traditionally our Annual General Meeting and is one of the most important meetings of the year. \nWe will be at our usual venue\, The Lion in Waddesdon. For those wanting to eat before the meeting please call The Lion to pre book your meal and arrive at around 18.30. The AGM will begin at 20.00. \nAt the AGM you will hear reports from the Chairman and Secretary on the previous years activity and some of the plans and aspirations for the club in the coming years. The Treasurer will also give the annual financial report. \nAt this meeting we also elect the officers and committee members for the forthcoming year and discuss the kind of events and activities the club will be involved in during 2020. We are always looking for members to join in with organising the various events throughout the year. \nAlso a reminder that membership fees fall due this month and I am sure that The Treasurer will be happy to take your money on the night. \nWe look forward to seeing you.

DESCRIPTION:Remember that this months club night is the annual quiz and is being organised by a couple of our newer members\, David and Julie Lloyd \nIt will be held at The Lion and we will be starting a little earlier than usual to give us a bit more time for this event. \nWill be providing a buffet meal and treats this year so no need to bring any food with you. There will be a small entry cost of £5.00 per person which will include the buffet and a strip of raffle tickets. \nDon’t forget that we have a raffle at this event and we would welcome any contributions you can make towards the prizes. \nTimings will be 7.00pm for a 7.30 start to the quiz. \nThe buffet will be served at the halfway point and we should be all done by 10.30pm. \nWe will of course be inviting neighbouring clubs to send a team as long as they promise not to win this time!!
