Club Trip to Battle

This year we managed to get away as a group thanks to the organisaion skills of Brian and Karen who arranged a few days away for us in Battle near Hastings.

We had nine cars on the trip making us a group of 18 who were well entertained with a great hotel and lots of places of interest to drive to. Here is a flavour of the trip and the destinations we enjoyed.

On Tuesday we arrived at the Powdermills Hotel for an afternoon check in and later met the rest of the party in the bar for drinks and making menu choices

The next morning we left the hotel for a short drive to Battle town where we were treated to a tour of some rooms in Abbey School and entry to the abbey ruins and 1066 battle site with an audio tour. There was a cafe in the grounds and another just outside the gates. Departing for a drive to the Bulls Head at Boreham Street we enjoyed buffet lunch.

After lunch we drove to Filching Manor and toured of some of the 1740 manor house, then visited the memorabilia sheds and the car collections. These included Bluebird, one of Donald Campbell’s boats.

We then had some free time before being bussed to our evening meal in a local restaurant.

On Thursday we drove to Bateman’s near Burwash (Rudyard Kipling’s Jacobean house). Following this we went the Science Centre at Herstmonceux for a guided tour of the observatories

The weather was fantastic throughout our stay so it was hoods down and caps on for the most of us.

Once we have a good selection of photos from the trip I will create a gallery of the event so you can see the full extent of this years away days and maybe it will encourage some one to organise one for next year and a few more members to join us.
