MGOC 50th Anniversary Road Run

Saturday 14th October dawned bright if a little fresh and I had bagged the near side seat in Clive’s MGB roadster as he had managed to acquire a ticket for the MGOC Road Run to celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary.

An early start on the route to Swavesey (MGOC’s HQ) – (top up) had us there in good time to load up with a great bacon roll and coffee before starting on the 88.9 mile road run. Clive was patient with my early Tulip chart errors (in my defence I was rather thrown by a left turn instruction in 0.05 miles until I realised it meant “in a little bit”. Having acquired a quick, if not thorough, knowledge of Tulip Chart instructions, and the appearance of a couple of other Road Runners who seemed to know what they were doing, we were off on a delightful trip through lovely countryside on very decent roads – top down.

We arrived back at HQ early afternoon – time enough to wander around the building and displays, and to take advantage of a very tasty lunch, courtesy of the Club. Clive managed to seek out Roger Parker for help and advice on how to rebed the rubber seal between soft top and screen. Apparently not easy, but Clive managed an adequate repair in the car park before a very pleasant journey home. The car ran beautifully with a delightful burble from the exhaustencouraged by Clive at every opportunity.

My thanks to Clive, and the MGOC, for a splendid day out in fine weather. A real treat as winter approaches.
